After completing a successful kitchen renovation, the clients returned a few years later with a request to remodel and enlarge their home. The 1970's Los Angeles tract house located in Cheviot Hills was transformed into a modern Craftsman Style residence. Because of the property’s significant changes in grade, the house steps up the site, creating three distinct levels. Indoor/outdoor living is encouraged through a variety of spaces, including an outdoor courtyard on the middle terrace, and a new swimming pool on the upper terrace. The house works well for entertaining, with a casual openness between living and dining areas. At the same time, the bedrooms and master suite maintain a sense of separation and privacy. The interior finishes use traditional Craftsman Style wood and rich color hues in a more relaxed, modern way. The kitchen remodel was published in House Beautiful, and appeared on HGTV’s “I Want That Kitchen!”
